The ERP Lab at the Chair of Business Informatics, Processes and Systems
The ERP laboratory is an important tool for investigating new digital processes and algorithms, the interaction of multiple systems and innovative forms of application system use. Currently, six ERP systems including different industry specializations are available for different sizes of companies. Open source systems are also used to present practical processes from different business areas and to address different focal points in the selection, introduction and operation of these systems.
Use in teaching
Our ERP laboratory provides the University of Potsdam with an excellent, scalable framework for training in the field of business application systems. Not only the classical courses benefit from the additional demonstration possibilities, but also advanced seminars and application-related bachelor and master theses are facilitated by the laboratory. In contrast to other universities, there is no need to limit yourself to one system. The ERP lab allows parallel access to different information systems, to get to know them in depth and to compare them with each other. The information service created is thus intended to promote the qualification of students in individual systems that are commonly used in practice, while at the same time supporting the abstract examination of architectural principles, usability aspects and implementation options within the framework of scientific education.
Use in practice
In addition to the increased quality in teaching, the laboratory also makes a considerable contribution to cooperation partners from the field. The possibility of providing a test bed for different systems and examining them there is attractive for both public authorities and private companies. ERP systems form the backbone of information processing and contain all essential information for the operation and control of value-adding business processes. In the age of digitalization, ERP systems are cornerstones of business success. In combination with other university facilities, further synergies can be created here.
