Meet up, exchange and learn virtually

Meeting up and connecting with other students in the same location despite online teaching? Virtual Reality provides the perfect solution!

Our new virtual learning space

As part of our module called "Digital Government" we are introducing our new VR learning space for the first time, where students can meet virtually to learn together or for a short exchange with each other in between studying sessions.

After creating your own avatar and setting up the microphone, you immediately find yourself in the huge entrance hall, from which you can access the different rooms. The controls work just as those in an ordinary video game where you can navigate with the arrow keys. If you approach another logged-in persons’ avatar, you can communicate with himor her via your own microphone - the closer you get to the other person, the louder you can hear him or her, just like in real life.

At the beginning you can alter your username and avatar according to your own taste

In the foyer there is an instruction for navigating in the virtual world

This makes meeting others for a joint learning session, sharing and revising documents, and discussing projects possible without having to meet up in real life. Other fun features await users such as the ability to play with 3D objects or place their own lettering in the room.

Lettering and objects can be edited and placed in the room arbitrary

The virtual learning room, which is rather an entire learning palace, is set up like a real, physical building. The room plan in the foyer gives an idea of what to expect on the different floors. In addition to a variety of seminar rooms equipped with information drawn from the chair's completed "DiReBio" research project which provide information about the bioeconomic transformation, the learning space has other futuristic-looking exhibition rooms, imposing halls, a large plenary hall, and a sweeping roof.

Once again it is shown that despite physical distance, creative solutions made possible by technological progress can keep you close to your peers and that there will always be ways to engage and have an helpful exchange with others.

See you at the next virtual learning session
