Vision Industrie 4.0
When components communicate independently with the production plant and, if necessary, arrange for repairs themselves or reorder material, then we are talking about Industry 4.0. The new possibilities within the framework of digitalisation represent an elementary competitive factor for future-oriented companies in all sectors. The fourth industrial revolution is characterized by a multitude of technical innovations, which have a massive inﬂuence on the working reality of all employees. The result is a change in the demands on competences, skills and qualiﬁcations of the people involved. The processing and use of information within the production organization and control is in the foreground. State-of-the-art information and communication technologies interlock with production and, in combination, enable the versatile and resource-eﬃcient factory of the future.
Industry 4.0 in practice
In practice, however, the question quickly arises as to the concrete design of the speciﬁc production processes in the company. The Research and Application Center takes up this problem and shows the concrete development and implementation possibilities of Industry 4.0. using the example of a hybrid simulation system and examines the possibilities that this set oﬀers for increasing productivity and competitiveness.
Research platform, consulting instrument and test track
The Research and Application Center Industry 4.0 is unique in Germany, as it combines automation technology, logistics, robotics, as well as operational application systems in one executable learning factory. We help companies decide what digitalization means for future competitiveness and use the ﬁndings to advance our own research in areas such as Internet of Thing, analysis, artiﬁcial intelligence and qualiﬁcation. In doing so, we work with real data and above all with real technology, which we use to make company-speciﬁc recommendations for action. We often accompany our project partners until the implementation.
Hybrid laboratory environment
Exploiting the potential of Industry 4.0 requires the further development of existing production systems. The use of modern tools for solution evaluation and appropriate qualiﬁcation of employees are essential components of a successful migration strategy. Our demonstration environment oﬀers a highly ﬂexible infrastructure that can be conﬁgured for various purposes and scenarios. Typical ﬁelds of application already realized include qualiﬁcation in the learning factory, internal use and function demonstrations as well as industry 4.0 evaluation. Our simulation environment ﬁnds the right solution for every production process using the Industry 4.0 tools. Worked on topics are among others:

The use of customer eﬀective tools for solution evaluation and the appropriate qualiﬁcation of employees are also part of successful sales. Our demonstration environment oﬀers a highly ﬂexible infrastructure that can be conﬁgured for various purposes and scenarios. Typical ﬁelds of application that have already been implemented include beneﬁt and function demonstrations including industry 4.0 evaluation as well as internal and external qualiﬁcation in the learning factory.
The Research and Application Center Industry 4.0 is available in Industry 4.0-related subject areas to all partners who want to successfully meet the challenges of change. We also oﬀer regular training courses for works councils and shop stewards who, among other things, learn about technical innovations and discuss the expected eﬀects on working relationships for employees. The modular structure of our training courses enables us to address speciﬁc information and learning content that is tailored to the needs and questions of the participants. Finally, the combination of theoretical and practice-oriented seminar phases contributes to the development of a basic understanding of Industry 4.0, corresponding technologies, organizational principles and eﬀects on the employees of the participants, thus making them ﬁt for the upcoming developments.
